Here's a note on just which sites to get links from.
Google ranks pages by the quality of the sites which link to yours,
by the quality of the sites you link to, and the PageRank of the two types of sites above.
By this, I mean that if you get a link from, say, Yahoo!, your PR will leap up, because Yahoo! has a PR of 9.
So, the conclusion is??
Submit your site to high PageRank directories, and never, never,
link to websites of bad quality. By bad quality, I mean sites with no real content (Just ads), and banned sites.
You can tell which are high PR and which are banned by looking in the Google Toolbar. White means PR 0, while all green means PR 10,
the best. Grey means that the site is banned.
The Google Toolbar can be downloaded with Firefox to the right or on the bottom of this page.

just one point i would like to make about google tool bar and page ranking, my site shows up white, i wish it was green, but heres the thing. this site is new, its not full of banners, its family freindly, it may not be everyones cup of tea. you give the impression that all sites that show white are not worth going to, surely a site must build up its reputation before it starts showing green. you can visit my site if you like at http://irelandmemories.blogspot.com/ i have to say that most of the sites i see with full green ranking don't always live up to their rank. give us wee people a chance before you knock us down. yours truly. gurnygob. ps your is a good site.

ReplyDeleteI was writing from an SEOer's point of view, that the links from sites with more PageRank are more valuable (I'm saying that the LINK is valuable to my site in the SE's).
Sorry if you misunderstood, I didn't mean that 'white' sites are not worth going to, just that if you had a choice, you would get a link from a high PR site.

Look at AngleBracket as of now: it is a 'white' site! If I were saying that all 'white' sites are not worth going to, AngleBracket would be "not worth going to." Surely I wouldn't be saying that my own site is not worth going to!
